Step inside the reimagined Hickory Museum of Art and experience The Women, a landmark exhibition by acclaimed fashion designer Charles Harbison. Spanning all three floors of the museum for the first time in its 80-year history, the exhibition features four custom silhouettes inspired by works from HMA’s permanent collection, alongside pieces from the Harbison Studio Archives and celebrated red-carpet looks, including Met Gala designs worn by Simone Biles, Mindy Kaling, Audra McDonald and John Imah. Harbison’s designs are paired with paintings and sculpture from the museum’s collection, featuring artists including Roy Lichtenstein, Juan Logan, Robert Motherwell, Selma Burke and Alexander Calder.

Anchoring HMA’s reopening theme, The Golden Thread, The Women celebrates the museum’s rich history while looking toward its future. For Harbison, a North Carolina native, the exhibition also marks a deeply personal homecoming, bringing together fashion, art and storytelling in a bold new way.
