Hickory Museum of Art has a rich, vibrant history that spans over eight decades. Founded in 1944 by Paul Whitener, Hickory Museum of Art (HMA) is North Carolina’s second-oldest art museum and serves as an integral part of the Catawba Valley’s cultural community, showcasing a diverse range of art forms.  Through its educational programs, workshops, and collaborations with other arts organizations, Hickory Museum of Art continues to foster a dynamic and inclusive space for creativity and cultural enrichment.

Over the years, the museum has consistently offered an impressive selection of exhibitions featuring both local and internationally renowned American artists, allowing visitors to explore diverse artistic expressions. Our mission is Art for All — to bring people together and inspire creativity through the power of art.
